Naturopathic Treatment for Digestive Health
Get to the root of your digestive symptoms with a focused, evidence-informed treatment plan and the tools to manage your health independently long after treatment ends.
Digestive Symptoms That Are Affecting Your Daily Life?
Digestive symptoms have a way of becoming your new normal - something you work around rather than resolve. For many people, standard testing comes back clear, yet the bloating, discomfort, and fatigue after meals persist.
You might be experiencing:
Bloating, cramping, or discomfort after eating
Irregular bowel habits (constipation, diarrhea, or both)
Acid reflux or persistent nausea
Food sensitivities you haven't been able to identify
Fatigue, brain fog, or low energy you can't fully explain
What most people don't realize is that these symptoms rarely exist in isolation. Poor digestion affects energy, mood, immunity, skin, and how well your body absorbs the nutrients it needs to function. Treating the symptom alone, without understanding what's driving it, is why so many people manage their digestive issues for years without ever fully resolving them.
A More Complete Approach to Digestive Care
Digestive symptoms are often a signal that something broader is out of balance. Food sensitivities, chronic stress, hormonal shifts, nutrient deficiencies, and systemic inflammation can all manifest as digestive complaints.
My approach begins with a thorough investigation of your full health picture, not just your digestive symptoms. Through detailed intake, targeted lab testing, and functional assessment, I identify what's actually driving your symptoms, then build a focused treatment plan around those findings.
The goal isn't to manage your digestion indefinitely. It's to resolve the underlying issues, restore normal function, and give you the knowledge to maintain that on your own.
What Treatment Involves
Digestive health treatment draws from a range of tools, selected based on what your assessment reveals rather than a standard protocol.
-
Regulates the gut-brain axis, reduces stress-related digestive dysfunction, and helps manage symptoms like cramping, bloating, and nausea. Particularly useful for patients where stress and nervous system dysregulation are contributing to symptoms.
-
Diet is almost always the starting point. Through a detailed review of your eating habits and, where indicated, food sensitivity testing, we identify what's contributing to your symptoms and make targeted adjustments. This isn't generic clean-eating advice, it's specific guidance built around your body's responses.
-
Clinically dosed supplements to support gut lining repair, reduce inflammation, rebalance the microbiome, and address any nutrient deficiencies identified through testing.
-
Evidence-informed herbal formulations that support digestive function, reduce inflammation, and help regulate gut motility. Botanical medicine is particularly effective for conditions like IBS, SIBO, and inflammatory gut conditions where a gentler, targeted approach is appropriate.
Getting to the Root of It
For patients with persistent or complex symptoms, targeted lab testing provides objective information that a clinical assessment alone can't. Standard GI testing often misses what functional testing reveals.
Food Sensitivity Testing: Identifies immune-mediated reactions to specific foods that may not be obvious through elimination alone
Inflammatory Markers: Elevated systemic inflammation is both a cause and consequence of poor gut health and identifying it informs the treatment approach
Nutrient Status: Poor digestion impairs nutrient absorption; deficiencies in key vitamins and minerals often explain fatigue, brain fog, and other symptoms patients don't connect to their gut
Not every patient requires extensive testing. Many cases can be addressed through assessment and dietary intervention alone.
My Process
In-Depth Assessment
Your first appointment is a comprehensive review of your digestive symptoms, health history, diet, stress levels, and lifestyle. This is where the detective work happens. Where lab testing is appropriate, it's ordered at this stage so that results inform the treatment plan directly.
Active Treatment
A focused treatment plan built around what your assessment reveals, combining nutritional guidance, supplementation, botanical medicine, and acupuncture as needed. The plan is specific to your case, regularly reviewed, and adjusted as your symptoms respond.
Maintenance & Self-Management
As symptoms resolve, the focus shifts to ensuring you understand how to maintain the results on your own. You'll leave with a clear picture of your triggers, a sustainable dietary approach, and the tools to manage your digestive health independently.

About Dr. Xavar Bangash, ND
Earlier in my life, a period of chronic stress led to debilitating stomach pain, uncontrolled weight loss, and an IBS diagnosis. It was naturopathic care that resolved it through a thorough, personalized approach that addressed what was actually driving my symptoms rather than managing them in isolation.
That experience is what led me to naturopathic medicine, and digestive health has been a core focus of my practice ever since.
My approach is deliberately straightforward. I don't believe in complex protocols for their own sake, and I don't prescribe testing or supplements beyond what your case warrants. The goal is to identify what's driving your symptoms, treat it efficiently, and give you the tools to manage your health independently.
FAQs
-
A gastroenterologist is the right provider for diagnosing and managing serious GI conditions through scoping, imaging, and medication. As an ND, my focus is on the functional and root-cause layer that standard GI investigation doesn't always address: diet, microbiome health, food sensitivities, nutrient status, and lifestyle factors. The two approaches are complementary, and I regularly work with patients who are also under specialist care.
-
Yes. This is one of the most common situations I see. Standard GI testing is designed to rule out serious structural disease, not to assess gut function comprehensively. Functional testing often reveals dysbiosis, food sensitivities, nutrient deficiencies, or inflammatory patterns that explain why symptoms persist despite a normal scope or bloodwork result.
